A Reintroduction of Sorts

A.N.: It's been a while.

 Hi there, my name’s Dana Dela Cruz. I go by the username of Gingy around here, but you can call me either. I’ve been on KidPub for about three and a half years, and every time I try to leave, I keep on coming back. You never really do forget your roots, I guess.

I’ve changed since I first arrived on this website. Back then, I was a naïve fourth grader who had dreams of being published, a pad of paper, and a pen. (By the way, I’ve always preferred pens over pencils.) I constantly posted stories that received minimal comments, and I typed in the most annoying fashion. Sometimes I WROTE IN ALL CAPS, other times I iNtErChAnGeD tHe CaPiTaLiZaTiOn like so, and other times me use terrible grammar. Despite my irritable personality, the members of KidPub took me into their virtual family.

 I like to think that I’ve changed because of KidPub. All of the comments have helped me gain confidence in my writing, and the critiques have caused me to improve it. I learned that none of my works were perfect and there was always room for improvement. The creative diversity on this website has inspired me to dabble in many genres I never would’ve thought about writing.

This website has helped me grow not only as a writer, but as a person. We really were a family. We shared secrets, we escaped our lives, we pretended to be characters in Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. We gave each other advice and drove each other mad. We also had our arguments, but when we look back, the good outweighed the bad. There were adventures on KidMUD and random wars on the Writer’s Block. My personality went through a metamorphosis of some sort. I developed not only a random, weird side, but also a serious side that appeared when we talked about serious topics like religion or war.

After my “generation” left, I felt completely left out. There were all of these people joining that I didn’t know. Tacos everywhere. I felt as if my time on this website had come to an end. So I left with nothing but a goodbye note. However, I kept on coming back to check up on you guys.

And here I am, a year or so after my first departure, at the place where I like to think my life as a writer began. Sometimes, I feel like I’ve never left and that things have never changed. Sometimes, I feel the pull to become a part of this new family, this new generation. And now I’m asking you: will you take me in again?
