Snowflake grew very tired. Her throat was sore from yelling out for her father. Her paws still hurt from the ice. She dug a small hole in the snow, and curled up inside her little den. "I wanna go home," she whimpered to herself. She put her head on her paws and soon fell asleep.

Snowflake woke to someone nudging her gently. "Get up," it said softly. "Wha...? What time is it? Where am I?" she asked drowsily. "You are home," the voice said softly. Snowflake looked up. She was confused. This was not home. This was the wilderness. "What are you talking about?" she growled. "This isn't home! I want to see my dad! Where am I? Get away from me, Weirdo!" The other dog did not reply. The other dog was just looking at her sympathetically. I don't need your sympathy! Snowflake thought. "You are safe now," the other dog said. "Come." Snowflake didn't want to admit it, but she did need help. She was just a sled dog. She needed help to survive out in the wilderness. Reluctantly, she followed the dog.

This dog was stronger and faster, and Snowflake struggled to keep up. Finally, they came to a small cave. The dog stopped. "We are here," she said. Some dogs came out of the cage. An older dog came over and sniffed the first dog. "Where have you been?" he asked. "I was worried about you!" he said. They looked exactly alike. This must have been her father. He came up and sniffed Snowflake. "She smells like your sister," he commented. "Who is your mother?" he asked. She hesitated. "I don't know," she admitted. Snowflake's mother had left when she was young. "Then who is your father, young pup?" he asked. Snowflake lifted up her chin. "I am Snowflake, daughter of Grey," she said.

There were gasps and whispers. "The former Alpha!" they said. "The whatta?" Snowflake asked. Then a she-dog stepped up. "It can't. It can't be!" she gasped. "Buniq?" she asked, trembling. "Who are you?" Snowflake asked. She had remembered her mother calling her that when she was little. "How do you know that?" Snowflake demanded.

"Because I am Flame...your mother," the dog replied softly.
