There once lived an old couple in China. They were very poor, and they wanted a child.
Then, one day, the old woman found a beautiful stork lying on the ground. It was hurt and bleeding. She took pity on it and nursed it back to health. Once it was healthy, the old woman let it free.
The next day, while the old couple were doing their chores, someone knocked on the front door. The old woman answered it. A young girl stood there. She had beautiful black hair and a pretty face.
"Would you mind if I stayed with you for a while? I'm lost." asked the girl in a soft voice. The old woman nodded.
"Of course!" she replied. The girl stayed with them for several days, and the were happy together. She always helped the old couple with chores. One day, the girl brought home a beautiful tapestry. A tapestry is a fabric with a woven design. You're supposed to hang at on your wall. The old woman sold it had made a lot of money. They had a wonderful dinner that night. Everyday, the girl would shut herself in her room for a few hours. Then she would come out with a beautiful peice of tapestry. The couple was very happy, but they noticed the girl had become very weak. So, when she was in her room, they decided to peek in. What they saw startled them. There was a stork, and it was plucking and using it's feathers as material for the tapestry it was making. Suddenly, the old woman regonized it. It was the stork she had saved! The stork saw them and changed into the girl. The old couple gasped. She ran out the door. The couple ran after her, but by the time they caught up, all they could see was the stork soaring high in the sky.
