I wrote this poem for the poetry slam contest tomorrow. Tell me what you think:
You were there for me
You really cared for me
And I love you
As I know you still love me.
Grandpa's barely 67
And I'm hardly more than 11
I miss your smile but
I know you're smiling down from heaven.
I promised I wouldn't cry
During the wake I tried
But I broke that promise
When I said my last goodbyes because
I cried.
It's only been 12 months
But it feels like 60 years
And I must have cried
150 gallons of tears.
When I wake up
And morning hasn't come
I imagine us doing
all the things we've never done.
On my wedding day
When I walk down the aisle
I'll remember you
And I'll know you would have smiled.
Don't know what you owed God
Or why you had to give
But it was your time to go
And now it's our time
To live.
