Through A Child's Eyes

Through A Child's Eyes

A/N: Wasn't sure what I was feeling when I wrote this. Amazingly, I wrote in rhyme, which is a feat for me, considering I'm a free-verse girl.

I am only a child

But I can still see

The ways of the world

as it turns around me:

The crickets that sing

to nobody each night

The sad mourning dove

as it cries and takes flight

The eye of the storm

that lures in fresh prey

The ocean that breaks

Leaving only its spray

The hurt that is caused

by words not meant

The skunk that hides behind

such a foul scent

The faces that vary

From place to place

The humans who wish

To claim endless space

That is our problem

this fickle trend

We always want,

but the earth will not bend

She lets each person

reap only what they've sown

Not letting one person

rise up on a throne

They tell me that I

can't comprehend

But maybe it is I

who knows best in the end

Not because of my height;

I'm not really that tall

But because I sit back

and just watch it all.

The adults of today

Have a lesson to learn

And believe it or not

It IS my concern

For one day quite soon

It will be the children's turn

To take over the world,

And all that we earn

If the world is not right

because you did not know to yield

What will we humans

use as a shield?

This is my plea,

This is my story

That we kids can still share

Some of the glory.

Maybe to you

I do not seem that wise

But this is only what I see,

Through a child's eyes.

Oh my gosh your reeely good

95% would cry if they saw ROBERT PATTINSON (Edward Cullen - Twilight, New Moon) standing on top of a sky scraper about to jump. If you're one of the 5% who would sit there eating pop corn saying "DO A FRONTFLIP!!" copy this and paste it in your signature

Firstly, I think it's unfair

Firstly, I think it's unfair of you to ask Erm to join your contest, one should rather comment on the story rather than advertise your own work under someone else's story/poem.

THen; I loved it :D

It's stunning and the rhyming pattern doesn't fall to pieces. I love the simplicity and the 'examples' given. The ending is very sweet too :)
