Wax Wings

A/N: I did a couple Greek-Mythology-based poems a while back: Midas and Medusa. This poem, Wax Wings, was planned at that same time, but I never wrote one that I was satisfied with until now.
We all fly
On wax wings
And the sun follows us
This is the part in your dreams of soaring
You fear. Tumbling from the sky
Cloaked in fire, screaming as
The children far below
Whisper among themselves:
Make a wish
We all fly...
Tomorrow when you wake
You will not remember
Anything but the bitter taste
Of fire in your mouth
And as you squint in the pink morning light
You know
That children wished upon you
And their dreams were never answered
Because you weren't a shooting star
Just a falling one
You used to fly...
You hear an echo
A scream in the distance
And you know that yet another star
Has just tumbled into the sea
It's not unusual
We all fly
On wax wings
And the sun follows us
There is no escape.

:) Greek mythology is awesome. I like how you included the falling star, vs. shooting star.
And I believe on the second stanza you meant, "This is THE part," not "this is part", because it was a bit confusing to read. Yet another wonderful poem :)
Kiki:(after Red Queen has a hysterical fit of laughter) Am I missing something?
