K! that's a lot of links! now. Here's the chapter.

.Chapter.Six.

Abby took a good, long look at the silent Wolf, memorizing every little detail about him. He was so... dark. So dark and silent and mysterious.

“Can I walk with you?”

Silence. Silence, as usual. But the silence... the silence had changed suddenly after she said that.

He didn’t speak a word, or even make any facial expression. But Abby could sense that something about that silence had changed... she suddenly realized that it was because the unknown thoughts that were going through Wolf’s mind had suddenly changed. She couldn’t tell why or what they were... but she could just sense it.

And his eyes had narrowed. Not menacingly, and not like he was annoyed, but more like... more like he was trying to figure something out. More in a sort of mystified way.

Abby guessed that if she could see his eyebrows behind his thick black bangs, then they would be creased together.

She was still studying him.

It was as if the goth impression that he gave should have been overpowering, but instead it wasn’t. Nothing about him was overpowering, in fact; his likeness to a wolf and his goth air balanced each other out so that when you noticed one, you noticed the other along with it. So there he was: a goth wolf. Such a strange combination.

Somehow... an attractive combination. He really was attractive, in a dark, murky way...

Abby shook her head to clear the thought away, startled by her own mind and how out of control it had just gotten.

She blinked, still recovering from the sudden thought. Her mind was like any girl’s  mind... one thought led to another, one idea set off another. Each thought set off another one, so that a chain reaction of thought occurred.

Suddenly, Abby realized that Wolf was looking at her out of the corner of his eye, his lids narrowed even further. She was still staring at him.

Abby blinked and glanced awkwardly at her feet. She had to keep control of herself more... she got so lost in thought that she lost control of her body for a moment. Sadly, she didn’t have Wolf’s ability to be in his own world and the real world at the same time.

What was it about Abby? He felt it, when she came near. He felt the impenetrable shadows of thought rapidly recede when she came near.

Was it just that she distracted him from his thoughts? It was as if she brought him back to earth when she came near--- jolted him out of thought. He realized he had sort of been living in the center of two worlds all the time-- his world and the real world-- and was sort of half into each one. And when Abby was there, he was brought back to earth. It was okay to be lost in thought, lost in his own world but still aware of Earth around him.

It was okay, until the enemy came to his world. The enemy, the shadowy tendrils of thought that could turn him into a horrible monster if he let them take over.

That was when Abby needed to be near... he needed her to distract him and bring him back.

There you are. Depending on that freak again. Have you ever looked to someone else for help before? No. You have been utterly and completely independent of the rules that keep other kids your age under control. You are free. Their rules don’t apply to you. You are separated from them. You are individual.

...You are lonely.

Wolf blinked. It never occurred to him that he was lonely before. His conscience, that little voice inside his head, suddenly sent him that message that gave him an entire new look on the world.

I’m going crazy. Wolf thought.

His conscience was in an arguing mood.

Or maybe you were always crazy, and are just now returning to sanity.

I really am going crazy.

What is with you? You are not. Open your eyes. Stop fighting the truth.

My gosh, what is wrong with me?

Nothing. Nothing is wrong with you.

Oh really? I’m having an argument with myself. You think that’s sane?

Everyone is always arguing with themselves. They don’t realize it, but they are. But you can see things other people can’t-- that means you notice things. Notice things such as the fact that your conscience is actually a literal voice in your head. See? Listen to me. I am a little voice. I am your conscience.

Oh wow.

What?

I’m having an argument with myself. And losing.

......

Why is Abby staring at me?

Wolf was jolted back from his argument with his conscience as he realized that.

That little voice in his head was being loud today.

Why is she staring at you?

That’s what I’m asking you.

Me? I’m you. I’m your conscience. You are asking yourself a question.

...but if you’re me, then how do you have a mind of your own?

I’m your conscience. You can’t understand me even if you try.

Well, we’re having an argument, right? So you must have a mind of your own. I agree with myself, so how can I disagree with you, who claims to be me?

Wolf sighed on the inside. He really was going crazy.

He looked out of the corner of his eye at Abby.

She had a sort of glazed, disoriented look in her blue-grey eyes.

Suddenly, she seemed to flash out of it, and glanced at the marble floor that they were walking on.

Wolf narrowed his eyes.

Why was she staring at you?

You know what? Just shut up.

Excuse me?

I can’t think with you in my head.

Well maybe that’s a good thing. When you think to hard, you go into your own little world, and then those horrible thoughts start taking over, and then Abby has to save you.

....

You have nothing to say for yourself, Wolf? Nothing at all?

Wolf got thinking. Thinking his own thoughts, and hoping his annoying conscience couldn’t hear them.

He could depend on himself. There were only two who could save him: Abby, or his conscience.

Depend on myself, and be horribly lonely, or hope Abby will save me.

Myself... or Abby.

Aug. Why not.

Abby.

Listen, I wanted to start a KP Award thingy like the Oscars (my brain, what is wrong with you!) where instead of a Grammy, you can win a Golden Taco!!!! What category do you think this would go in? Cause you can nominate it! But listen, cause I think you might do Vaaren Salvation this year, at the 2nd Annual KP Awards, you'd have to do something differnet (cause VS would probably win EVERY year) and I wouldn't want fights breaking out cause someone keeps entering a story that wins every year. Anyway back to praise: YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
