in the clouds

It feels like I’m trapped and gasping for air sometimes
Like a metaphorical corset around my middle
Stealing the air from my lungs and the childhood from my body
As you pretend all the while not to see how it hurts
Because I have to be normal so I’ll act like this is natural
It’s easier for us both that way

But soon I’ll be free to leave this corset behind
And stop pretending to be someone I’m not
Though you think that this corset is something I need
How else can I find our people?
Of course, they are really only your people
But I can’t tell you because the truth is too painful for you to hear
Like you are the child and I’m the adult

At first I didn’t even feel the corset
I wasn’t aware of the subtle tightening year by year
Then I bore it by assuming it was like this for everyone
That we all had to cover up things that didn’t fit our predetermined fate
But I had to figure it out eventually
Most girls aren’t the way I am

But there’s nothing wrong with me
So why do I still wear this painful reminder that you don’t understand?
Why can’t I say the things that are on the tip of tongue of my tongue?
Maybe because I’m too afraid of you seeing the corset for what it is
And judging me for being different
Yes, maybe one day I’ll see this was all in my mind and get rid of the useless corset
But maybe not
And you can’t pretend to know me better than I know myself when you never cared for answers

But one day I’ll shed this corset and be able to breathe easier
Even if I have a label as different
I’m not the only one
And soon it will be your choice to either except me as I am
or shove me away, pretending to know me but only seeing what you want to

You say you dont think it's

You say you dont think it's this way for everyone, but I disagree. I've read this whole series of poems, and I understand everyone, and realize it could be my writing.

To know me better, read A Little Bit of Hope
