The Guardians is back!

in a secret bunker finishing the Guardians

Hey everyone! Jack (also known as pensword) here!

Nearly three years ago, I posted on KidPub the first chapter of the Guardians, a superhero action-adventure novel. The simple reason for the project was to have fun and create something other KidPub members would enjoy, but since then, the Guardians novel has grown in ways I could have never expected.

The story received tons of positive feedback from other KidPub members and inspired me to become a professional novelist someday. To this day, because of the Guardians, this is still one of my top goals in life.

Three years after that first chapter was published, the Guardians has grown to over four hundred and thirty pages and is nearly two hundred thousand words long. The last chapter I posted on KidPub was on August 17, 2017, and can I just say I am sincerely sorry to have kept all my readers in the dark for so long. Well, I have some good news.

Since that last chapter was posted, I have completed the first Guardians novel, and I am ready to share it to all of you! Thank you for sticking with me and the story for so long. You’re not going to be disappointed. The Guardians is back, and it’s better than ever.

It’s about time, isn’t it?

Two important updates you should know. I’ve been editing the Guardians and a few things have changed since you read the book last.

The setting used to be modern-day Washington, D.C., but that has changed. The setting is now the city of Anthem about forty years in the future, following a devastating war which desolated much of the country. Some areas, like Anthem, remain and have a governmental structure, but they are a far cry from the cities before the war. This new setting fits better with the themes of the story and are much more interesting in my opinion.

Brandon, whose superhero moniker is Necrosis, has received some updates to his name to keep with the new, more futuristic setting. His name is now Brandyn, a big change I know, but just wanted to let you all know.

For all those on KidPub who haven’t read the Guardians before, I’ve compiled links to all of the chapters so you can read them in order if you want. If not, the next chapters I’m going to post won’t make much sense (as is with most novels), so I would encourage you to read them!

I’ll post the next chapter of the Guardians tonight at around 4:00 PM, May 30 (CDT time zone), and other chapters will be posted a few times per week. There’s a lot to cover, and a lot of the story left. Stay tuned, Guardians!

Jack! I remember you, and

Jack! I remember you, and though I don't remember the Guardians as well as I should, I recall them, too. I can't promise I'll read it all, because I have work this summer among other things. But I'll favorite this page and give it a good old college try.

Welcome back!

That's awesome to hear! It's so cool to see people who still remember the series.

Yeah, it's a lot, I know. I'm going through editing to combat that very problem.

It's good to be back.
