I really shouldn’t

I really shouldn’t

in The heights

I really shouldn’t dream about finding love when I’m so young anyway
When it’s not the most important thing right now
When even the mere mention of love brings a contempt grin and a sardonic twinkle to my face but a hope to my heart
I have so many friends
So why do I feel lonely

I dream at night about finding someone who holds me because he can
Who comforts me when I’m upset
Who kisses me and dances with me and laughs with me
Who is with me through my triumphs and fails and who loves me

I dream of love notes and whispered secrets
Of hand holding and quick kisses and constant smiles
Of locking eyes and feeling the rush of emotion
But when I wake I’m alone with longing in my heart

I tell myself it doesn’t matter
It couldn’t matter
It shouldn’t matter

I shouldn’t wish so hard for something so fleeting and unnecessary at this point in my life
I shouldn’t hope for someone to see me that way so often
I shouldn’t daydream about things that won’t happen

I shoot myself down because I know that what I wish is impossible
At least for now
So I remain a dreamer hoping that maybe someday
But I really shouldn’t think too much of it now

This is such a beautiful

This is such a beautiful expression for, I think, a lot of us. A thousand years ago, kids our age were getting married, and we wait arguably longer than people have at any time in history...which might be a good thing, but it nonetheless leads to a lot of longing.

Spero quod via tua est directa et quod tuum onus est levis.
