The Island

It was an island of paradise

a miracle floating in the water

a respite from the punishing ocean

a heaven of Islamic green;

Sweet green ambrosia to eat

leaves him overcome with grand emotion,

soothing nectar and abundant shade

covers the land in a lustrous sheen.

But bliss and haven are a lure

for sanctuary here is not without price:

a venus fly trap, an island of lotus-eaters

a massive carnivorous machine.

To stay forever might be nice

but forever at the price of all forward motion.
