A Random Burst of Writing #4-Cobra

Her hand deftly avoided the snake’s attacks. Its head danced around her slithering fingers. One slip, one miscalculation, and she would be lying in the dust. They had ordered this one. Her fingers groped, time and time again, for that hold at the back of the neck. It was a large snake, and she had to jump up, and avoid the six-foot long body as it crept closer. Now she was dancing too, avoiding the shifting coils. She pressed a foot on the snake’s body as she grabbed its neck just behind the hood. She gasped as the snake wound itself around her leg. She drove a knee into the snake’s windpipe. It went limp, but it was still alive.
She pulled a cloth out of her backpack and made it into a sack, tying it at the top and slinging it over her shoulder. She staggered a bit under the weight, but skipped off without a care in the world.
Perhaps she should have had at least one.
The land around her was teeming with snakes. Normally she would have stepped carefully, ears alert. She had been a snake hunter for many years now. The capture of the huge snake sent her skipping.
Suddenly she felt a sharp sting in the heel. She looked down to see a tiny adder slithering away.
She began to feel dizzy…
