Mythical Creatures #1 Serafina

I pressed my body close to Essex’s blue fur and stroked the feathers on his back. The blue leopard with the peacock’s tail always comforted me. Essex nuzzled the brightly colored feathers that I had in place of hair. They matched his back, which was covered in iridescent green feathers. I was human, but partially peacock. I belonged here.
The jungle was not safe. I knew that, but with Essex next to me, I felt like I could do anything. But still, the softly glowing jungle seemed unfriendly.
“I’m scared, Essex”
Essex put a paw around me.
“You've lived here all your life, Serafina. Why would you be scared now?”
“I saw an Amarok”
Essex chuckled “Eclipse wouldn't hurt a fly. I know him. He may seem big, but he's gentle. Besides, there’s wolves all over this forest. Tell you what, we’ll go see Fatima. She’ll tell you what will happen.
Fatima was a Kitsune. She could tell the future. She looked young, with fluffy blue fur and slanted eyes, but was probably older than a lot of the creatures. Time seemed to have no clutch in this jungle, and there was no way to tell how old a creature was. Some grew old, but some lived forever or until they were killed. Kitsunes never had any children. They were always female, and no one had any idea of what brought them into existence.
Kitsunes had many tails. The wiser they were, the more tails they had.
We found Fatima sleeping in a meadow. No one dared to do anything to her. Kitsunes were the most respected animal in the jungle. I rode Essex as he bounded over to her softly glowing form, sending a phoenix out of its hiding place.
Fatima
“Hello, Essex. Hello, Serafina” Fatima greeted us cheerfully, but seemed to have something that worried her. I knew Fatima. Nothing ever worried her. The change seemed startling.
“Something’s bothering you, Fatima.”
Fatima sighed.
“I didn't want to worry you, Seri, but I’ve been looking into the future. She sat up and waved a front paw around. The ocean kitsune is coming here. I’m sure you felt it. You have a little bit of the gift. You felt scarted this morning didn't you?”
I nodded.
Fatima waved a front paw and an image appeared through a whirling portal.
It depicted a Kitsune, a fox with nine tails, but this one had red eyes, long legs, and a flaming body.
Fatima sighed, and the image went away. “Yes,” she whispered. “I feel it. Sear is coming back”
