The Two Last Kidpubbers 2: Hope for the Future part 5

A/N this story's quality is going downhill
“W-what happened?” Maria shakes her head to clear it. She is in a small, dark cell. The walls seem to be made of black stone that seems to swallow the fitful light that is cast by a tiny, high-up, barred window. After a moment her eyes adjust to the darkness. She sees a figure sitting in a corner of the cell.
“Connor?”
“Maria, is that you?”
Maria feels relieved. “Yes, this is me. Why are we here?”
“I’m trying to figure that out myself. Could you go see if you can see out the window? I can’t get up there.”
Maria flaps her wings and manages to grasp the windowsill. She looks out, but sees nothing but bare wall. “Nothing but a stone wall.” She drops to the ground, disappointed.
“How are we gonna get out?” asks Connor.
“As it so happens, I don't have the slightest idea so I suggest we wait for a while and see what turns up.”

After a while Connor notices the door opening. His keen ears detect footsteps that sound almost like big cats, but two legged. Maria’s alert expression gives away that she hears them too. Her ears swivel as if she wants them to fall off.
The heavy door slams open. Two figures in hoods enter and tie Maria’s and Connor’s hands behind their backs. They shove the two out the door and down the hallway, which is heavily carpeted. A strange thing for a dungeon. Thinks Connor.
Connor stares at the feet of their captors. He thinks he sees paws underneath the shadowy robes. Maria glances at the paws too and then winks at Connor.
She whispers something to one of them and it whispers back. They seem to be conversing in some foreign language that sounds like a combination of quiet snarls and growls. They continue talking until they’re almost at the end of the hall, where Maria and her captor stop altogether. The shadowy guard lowers her hood. The face underneath is the face of a wolf.
“You really think so?” She asks in english.
“I’m certain,” replies Maria.
The wolf pulls the hood over her head again and the two resume their wolfish whispering. Finally the wolf nods and looses Maria’s bonds.
“What did you tell her?” whispers Connor.
“Tell you later.”
The wolves push them into another hallway, which is longer. In addition to the carpet, this hall has carvings on the wall and a pair of double doors. The doors lead to a massive room, with tiled floors and a domed roof. Straight ahead, in the center of the room, is a massive throne. A serpentine dragon crouches on the throne. The dragon is long and green and looks slightly like an asian dragon. Two horns sweep back over the snake like head while another pair sweep under the jaw as if to hook its food. Cold yellow reptile eyes watch the small group with a steely gaze and a snake’s tongue flickers between overbit fangs.
Maria speaks up first. “Exactly what do you want?” she shouts across the room.
“I want you to give up your stories.” The dragon’s voice is hissing and low, but obviously feminine. It is a she-dragon.
“Some dragon has said that before,” says Maria. “And guess what happened to him.”
“He was my brother,” roars the dragon. All subtleness gone, her mouth opens impossibly wide and flames leap.
Suddenly there is a screech, and the room is filled with feathers. Connor, now a massive bird, screeches at the dragon. She blasts him with some visible magic spell, and he drops back, morphing back into a human as soon as he hits the ground. He lays there for a few seconds, winded, then slowly gets back to his feet.
“As you sssee,” hisses the dragon, “it is useless to resist.”
“Run.”
“What?” Connor looks around to see Maria whispering in his ear. She points towards a window in the corner of the room.
“Just go.” She shoves him. The wolf that Maria had talked to is now talking to the dragon, distracting her. Connor runs, crashes though and changes to a toucagon as soon as he's out. Maria follows, flying somewhat slower, almost before she is out she hears the distant bang of a sonic boom.

First, time lords are aliens from the planet Gallifrey, but Connor's not from Gallifrey. They have two hearts, increased mental capacity, and the ability to, when they die, regenerate and get a new body. The regeneration process, while destructive, is quite beautiful. Here is the Tenth Doctor regenerating:

Actually, I think this story still holds up really well-it's very creative with its surroundings. Nice job, Maria!

A few ideas! Maybe, at the end of the book, it takes place at this huge, dramatic event. It could take place at at a lair. Maybe a castle. Maybe a concert. Maybe in an unexpected area. This is only one of my ideas, so it may not be the best.
