Where did the words go?

in Hawaii(I can dream, right?)

Where did the words go?

The words that you to bounce around my head,

tangling with my tongue

and slipping into my veins

But now the few that remain are curled lifelessly

in the darkest corners of my mind,

like quarters under a couch,

just out of reach

Now, there's only an empty void

that reflects in my eyes

Where did the words go?

The words that meant the love

that aches and burns in my chest

like I don't deserve to claim it

But now "love" is whitewashed and bleached and turned inside out to be wrung

like the ends of hair

dipped in seawater

Now, there's only the hollow echo

of a word in its place

Where did the words go?

The wrods that could be

dripped off lips

like pebbles into water,

creating waves meant to be surfed into sunshine so bright it would hurt your eyes

But now they're carelessly tossed aside

as if we have endless resovoirs,

as if words could be solf for a penny a piece,

not to be held in the palm of a hand to test the heft

Now, we're left scrambling to force the magnetic letters

into words, sentences, that mean something

Where did the words go?

The words that whispered poetry to me

In my 3pm dozes

and held my shaking hand in my 3am nightmares

But now those words lay strewn at my feet

after pouring from the passage

between my skin and my pen and my paper

like the blood

that refuses to pump through my veins

I don't remember using them

Where did the words go?
