It's a really good book. For whatever reason the protagonist (I'll call her Adi) is mean to the new girl, Maya. Adi isolates her as much as she can, but a teacher says "Each kindness will always ripple out" and Adi changes her mind and is like "I'm going to be nice to Maya the next time I see her!" However, Maya has moved away again, and Adi walks to the nearby lake in sadness after school. She hurls a stone in the lake and it ripples away, like kindness. Just like the kindness she hadn't shown to Maya. Adi realizes that she will never get the chance to see Maya and be kind to her ever again. Bad ending.
