can I rant about what I'm not writing? because frankly that list is longer.

I'm not writing about the group of four ambiguously gendered friends that may or may not get involved with some heavy magic.

I'm not writing about the one story where Freak gets an actual family and memories and all that jazz.

I'm not writing about the Powered kids. All eight of them, with their dramatic backstories that I deemed so important they each got their own book.

Or the Kinetics/Enhanceds/Pathon.

Or that one Hot Mess(tm) series where the world is ending and literally nobody has a plan to stop it except that one character who is so done with everything that he just might ragequit and let Earth die.

And I'm roleplaying with the characters from the story with the random assassin group and something about missing dads angsty vampires and ghosts.

This is frustrating. I am frustrated.

those of us who don't suffer from writer's block mostly suffer from writer's clog, where there are so many ideas running constantly that it's hard to stay with one project long enough to make something worthwhile.

I just want to find a nice idea and stick with it that shouldn't be too hard and yet it is ahhhhh

Ughhh I just want actually stick to a story and finish it but I always get bored and move on to a new story after a few months. Like I have an entire series planned out by I doubt I'll finish one book, let alone four.

you know I used to have this problem a lot too. something that really helps is if you 'catch' the story. Like, if you get an idea, write it down in very basic notes. Don't plot it or anything, just capture the idea on paper, and then you can put it away for later.

My ideas usually come via characters, so I always just jot down the character names and make lists like this;

- Mal born without eyes. Wants to be normal.
- Kaelin starts having seizures and ends up wheelchair bound
- Abasi born without hands. Robot hands?

and so on, just enough that I remember what my original vision was. That way you don't have to worry about trying to write sixty thousand books at once, and distraction is minimal because once the idea is on paper it doesn't ping around inside your skull nearly as much.

speaking of Mal how possible do you think it is to write an entire book without gender-related pronouns?

not even 'they', just names and I/you.

pretend your character is totally blind when you first write. Just do it. Immediately negate all visual cues and force yourself to write the sounds and the touches and the smells. You can go back and add visual later. Visual is easy. Visual gets relied on too much.

To have an entire, 3D world, you need more than just the looks.

Also I'm having a lot of fun writing for my blind charrie, which is what inspired this post.

I cant find characters that I really like so I'm never motivated to do anything and I hate this lmao
