Water Crisis

2 percent of all the water in the world is drinkable, fresh water.
And to share that among 7 billion people?
The average U.S. person uses 70-100 gallons of water a day.
The average African family uses 1-2 gallons of water a day.
In devoloped countries, you just turn on a faucet to get clean water.
In developing countries, women and children walk 4 miles or more to get dirty water.
Watch this video and tell me what you think:

Unequal sharing of resources, what can you do? We can't help every undeveloped country out there, they have to get somewhere on their own

wildwolf 06-24-2011 04:52 PM

They can't do it on their own. They need help.
Picture it like this:
There's a kid who's really, really, bad at math. There's also a kid who's really good at math. The kid who's good at math doesn't want to help the kid who is bad at it because he doesn't want to share knowledge.

Its not about sharing knowledge. ITs not like we're greedy with our water or something.

Two kids in the desert run towards an oasis. One gets there, one is lost. The lost one is responsible for his or her own actions.

Its not like undeveloped countries are inherently bad at infrastructure. You have to do that stuff on your own. America believes its the world's savior. Its not.

We should mind our own business. We have enough problems, like a multi-trillion dollar national debt...

Which Obama has the perfect plan to fix: raise the debt celing.

*Oh my god I obrrowed all this money, how will I pay back? Borrow more of course*

Yeah that'll solve it...

shadowtide 06-25-2011 12:42 AM

Barack Obama is rather stupid about the whole national debt thing (no offense to people who like him). Sure, people will get mad if he raises taxes or makes budget cuts, but so what? He should, as the president he has the duty to do something.

Well, America did destroy a lot of countries in the Middle East. An example is Iraq, such as destroying their infrastructure, ruining some of their national monuments, killing people, and ruining lives. We should help the countries we ruined, and countries in special need (such as Haiti during the earthquake and Japan during the earthquake and tsunami).

shadowtide 06-25-2011 01:46 PM

That's true.
I don't think America really distroyed Iraq, though... we did help them get rid of their government. Though, personally I still think the Iraq war was a bad idea and did more harm than good.
America doesn't have to be the 'world's savior', but I do think it should help those in special need when it can.

Oh, of course shadowtide: killing innocent civilians and ruining lives isn't destroying a country. My father told me a story of a man who was killed in the war in his country: the man peeked out of the window in his house, and immediately got shot with a sniper. Anything that moves gets shoot, even civilians. I imagine the same in other war-torn countries, including Iraq.

Basically, America has a haughty notion that its way is the only way, and that it has to spread this to other countries, like some kind of sick modern-age missionary.

Last century Communism was the evil, and Capitalism must be spread! Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, countless others...

Now Dictatorships are evil and its our job to spread Democracy. Iraq... support of the libyan revolution, many others to come

America: "Democracy! Capitalism! English! Ice Cream!"

Rest of the World: "Shut up and siddown!!!"

wildwolf 06-25-2011 08:32 PM

What does that have to do with a WATER CRISIS?!?!?!? We are being greedy with our water!
How many of you leave the water on while brushing your teeth?
How about while waiting for the shower to warm up?
Needless wastefulness.
