Okay, well, here's my advice-

I tend to not plan stories. I find it boring. However, plan the main events. Like, when you're not writing, think about it. Plan the main plot line, and maybe come up with smaller side-events. You can add smaller things as you go.

As for not abandoning........you've just gotta write. That's what works best for me. If I force myself to write, I write more.

Also- try stopping at an exciting part so you'll want to write it when you pick it back up.
