the use of love triangles when they're overrated in the context of the book and kind of unrelated to the plot are considered cliche thanks to Twlight and THG. a love triangle in a romantic novel is understandable, but it's just become overused as of late and pretty tiring when the characters don't have enough depth or the writing isn't good enough to make it meaningful. Plus, you see more love triangles than gay couples in books and novels.

The story starts with a *completely* ordinary kid, who had average brown hair, was average height and had average eyes.

Optional:

But there was one strange thing...

Maybe..but I don't have a problem with love triangles if it's good writing.

Finally, someone shares my opinion. I made it about two thirds of the way through Insurgent, but it was hard to even get there.

My situation exactly. My sis is a huge fan and has read all the books and watched the movie, but I consider the series to be a little hackneyed.

Indeed. I got bored, especially with the Tris/Four relationship. I mean, sorry, shippers, but... it was boring.

Here's another cliche:
New girl crushes on popular football player (I will never understand this, since my opinion of football players is "big fat conceited jerkface," but I'm a band girl, so...). Football player is dating popular cheerleader, but develops crush on new girl. Their love is "forbidden" (how so? They're both white heterosexual teenagers who live within three miles of each other) and in the end, they end up together and it's all cute and stuff, but the cheerleader is pissed.

Girl likes this boy but he's her best friend, and she's not sure what to do about him, since he lurvs the hot girl of the school, so she supports him and is there for him, and in the end he realizes that he was meant for her, and then the hot girl gets jealous, and then goes for boy's other nerdy best friend xD
