On my first day of middle school, I was flipping OUT! But don't worry. It's not as bad as everyone makes it seem. Yeah, it's a big change, but you get used to it. Here are some MUST DO rules for everyone at the beginning of sixth grade. (though the world won't end if you break one or two)

1. Try to be nice to everyone. (noticed I said 'try')
2. If you know an answer, raise your hand. If you know all the answers, don't ALWAYS raise your hand.
3. Keep your locker, backpack, binders, folders, papers...keep EVERYTHING as organized as possible.
4. If someone's mean, blow them off.
5. AVOID the 'popular' group.
6. Do your own thing, be yourself. Unless you consider being yourself taking all your clothes off and dancing the Makarana in the hallway.
7. Find your friends and stay with them. Don't turn your back on them.
8. Try to avoid the whole dating and popular drama.
9. Always carry three pencils and two erasers.
10. Just relax and you'll make it through the year.
"What were you doing under our windows, boy?"
"Listening to the news."
"Listening to the news! Again?"
"Well, it changes every day, you see."

Don't sweat it. Everyone turns Middle School out to be some horrible thing- but it's not. I actually prefer Middle School over Elementary. You get a LOT more freedom, and more fun classes.

Here's some tips-

1. You'll most likely have a locker. Keep your combination somewhere where you can get to it easily if you need it. If you forget your combination, ask a teacher! And if your locker gets jammed, well, I found that if you have a latch, that pushing your palm up hard against it helps. Or ask a teacher. They're willing to help.

2. On your first day, you'll most likely just meet the teachers, get to know what's in the classroom, etc. Here's your chance to get to know the teachers.

3. Like someone else said, try to AVOID 'popular' groups. They make cliques, and if you're not in the clique when it's made, then you're going to have a hard time getting in. Avoid them.

4. Get to know some people! Scout around the classrooms when you have time and find who looks nice and like they might be your friend. Try sitting next to them, and stir up a conversation! I made quite a few friends this way. (:

5. You'll probably switch classes in Middle School. Make sure that you have the supplies you need to EACH class in advance. Teachers don't like it when you forget something and have to go grab it. Don't get on a teacher's bad side the first day.

6. Like someone else said, make sure you ALWAYS have two to three pencils with you, and an eraser. If you notice you're running low on notebook paper, then make sure you get some more before you completely run out.

7. Do your best, and be yourself.

8. And most importantly, HAVE FUN and RELAX. Middle School is fun, and you'll survive it. (: Who knows? Maybe you'll learn to love it....

Euhhhh! Okay, so my middle school sent a letter saying 'Students may complete part of their community service during the summer'.

I haven't done any during the summer because it says MAY. Not REQUIREMENT. But I'm still freaking out. If they say MAY it means that I can if I want to, right? I don't have to if I don't want to, right? School starts in about a month and I don't wanna be called up on the first day of school!

What's middle school...um...like? Primary school (this is the system where I live) goes from 4-11 (years R(reception)-6), and is like, you have the same teacher for everything (almost) and stay in the same room all the time. Secondary school (ages 11-16, years 7-11) is you have a different teacher for each subject and move around all the time, but at my school you don't get set (arrange for ability).

We also have to pick our Options this year (year 9), as to what GCSEs we will do. GCSEs are exams which you have to get at least 5 of.

I plan to take:
English Language
English Literature
Religious Studies
Art (?)
Information Technology (computers, we have to take that this year)

Elementary is like primary...
Most schools- Grade 1-5

Grade 1- 6&7 year olds
Grade 2- 7&8 year olds
Grade 3- 8&9 year olds
Grade 4- 9&10 year olds
Grade 5- 10&11

My elementary school was same teacher for every subject. No lockers.

Middle school is Grades 6-8.

Grade 6- 11&12 yrs old
Grade 7- 12&13
Grade 8-13&14

People usually say 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade etc. not Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3. etc.
