Question Homework Help

Forgive me if there's something like this, but I couldn't find it.

I need help with homework often. My older brother is a jerk, too lazy, and is usually hibernating in his room and my parents are generally very busy.

So, I'm coming to you all. Right now I'm struggling in Pre-Algebra, 8th grade math. If you could help me this problem I would be very grateful:

Quote:
f(x) = –3x + 1 and
g(x) = 10x – 4.
Find the indicated value.
11. f(x) when x = –1 12. g(x) when x = 5
13. x when f(x) = –17 14. x when g(x) = 31
15. f(–20) 16. f(4) + g(–3)
Right now I'm on #14.

Post any problems from any subject you need help with! I'll try to answer too, but don't count on any genius - I need YOU!

Question

Quote:
x^3 · x^5
That's x^8, right?

Another exponent question:

I need to simplify
Quote:
a^12/a^8
. Can I chance it to
Quote:
a^3/a^2
because there are 3 fours in 12 and 2 fours in 8?

assuming / means divide and^ means times (I'll use * here though)...I'd say no.

You'd have a fraction, with a times 12 on the top and a times 8 on the bottom. You need to simplify. So, you get rid of the two 'a's and have 1 there. Then you divide 12 by 4 and eight by 4. After that, you have 3 over 2. That's 1 and a half.

If I've read the question correctly, I should be right.

31=10x-4
35=10x
3.5=x

That's a simple question. You've got it absolutely correct.

I love algebra. Most of the time. I think I'm ok at it, so if you need any help with it just ask.

What, exactly does ^ stand for? Could you tell me the question in detail?

I'm using ^ to indicate an exponent.

Thanks!

Question

Notice how all of this thread is me asking for help on math.

Quote:
59. Running You can use the formula l = 0.0625s^2to approximate the maximum running speed s (in meters per second) that a person with leg length l (in centimeters) can sustain. Find the maximum running speed for a person with a leg length of 64 centimeters.
Wut? o.O
