Joss held up his book so she could see the cover. By this time Chloe was listening to her music and staring out the window, realizing that Alisha probably didn't want to talk. After years of being best friends with Joss, she knew the type.

"I'm reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," Joss added with a small smile. "It's one of my favorites."

Alisha was surprised.

"That's one of my favorites too, actually... I brought it, but my luggage is in the truck bed, so I only have this one." She gestured to the book on her lap, Elanor and Park.

"Is it good?" Joss asked, interested now. He set his book down on his lap with a piece of paper he was using as a bookmark. "I've read a book by that author before."

"Yeah," Alisha replied. As much as she was expecting all of Jonah's friends to be idiots, Joss wasn't so bad. "You can borrow it, if you'd like. It's a reread."

(also ena when you jump in and stuff just letting you know snow is trying to address you on the character intro thread)

“Cool!” Joss said. “Thanks! Do you mind if I borrow it when I finish this one? It’s a reread too but I’m almost done anyway.”

"Sure." Alisha was feeling a tad bit better about this trip. She had never cared for boys, but Joss was really cool.

Jonah was afraid Charlotte would get impatient with how long the car trip was, even though it was her place they were going to. He was almost there, thank god. The others would come up in a couple days, so the four of them would have the place to themselves for a while.

"We're almost there," he reassured her before she could say anything.

Charlotte smiled, crinkling her nose. "Thanks babe. I'm so excited about this trip." She really was excited, though a lot of people might just think she was faking it. But the prospect of not having her parents hover around her for a while was refreshing.

Chloe sighed as she stared out the window. Hadestown was a good musical, but she would rather be talking to someone. It was a weird enough energy being in the car with her ex-best friend from childhood, who didn't seem to be paying her any attention. It was fine. Chloe was just going to act upbeat no matter what, like she always did.

Joss smiled at Alisha before going back to reading. Reading was one of his favorite pastimes, as he liked dissolving into another world.

Jonah pulled into the little neighborhood viewing the lake. "Is it this one, or this one?" Jonah pointed out a couple of the houses.

Alisha scanned the houses. Pretty nice, compared to what she was expecting.

Charlotte took his hand in hers to point to the house next to the one he was currently pointing at. "This one." It was a stately house, not quite big enough to call a mansion, but honestly calling it one wouldn't be a stretch. It was a beige color with an olive green front door, and three stories. The house was right at the edge of an azure lake, and with it's little boat moored to a small dock and manicured lawn, it looked like something from a movie set. Maybe Annie. Charlotte grinned smugly at Chloe's look of awe.

As they filed into the house, Alisha tried to hide her look of disgust. Of course Charlotte was rich. Of course this house had to be huge. But she had to say, the room that she got- with one other bed, supposedly for one of the other guests, was nice. Jonah and Charlotte were going to share a room, and she had no idea where the other two went. Not until she heard Charlotte leading one of them nearby. Looks like she wouldn't get her room to herself until the others showed up, then.
