Default Superpowers

Lots of us write fantasy or science-fiction, and in many of our stories, the characters have superpowers. Here's a thread to share and ask for ideas.

My favourite superpowers usually have to do with the dead– talking to them, reanimating them, becoming them. Any necromancy is fun.

For some reason, I like powers that either strengthen or weaken other people's powers...

I don't really have limits. The type of power changes. Depends.

For instance, in Natural Forces, they have to be, well, natural powers. Light, darkness, air, fire, storm, earth, plants, water, ice, *LITTLE BIT OF A SPOILER* a bit of time and airspace this might mean a lot later... also Twilight corruption of powers causes some interesting forces.

Meanwhile, in my manga the powers really don't have guidelines, so we end up with a rapier-wielder with vine powers, a longsword-user with aura powers (seeing the aura of a person, using different auras to power up, "charge" her sword, affect an opponent/everyone around, etc. It's a very complicated power), a spear-wielding thunder/lightning user, and the guy who relies entirely on numeral magic (this would take too long to explain). And yes, the thunder/lightning and vine power users are just like, "wow you people have really complicated powers" "ours are so simple" and stuff sometimes. Although, the vine user... *cough* nope. Spoilers.

I love giving powers that correspond to the character's personality.

Like, I have a character who's arrogant and prideful. He can turn into a lion.

Yep.

SHADOWS!

It'd be epic to grab someone and wrap them in a net of shadows.

It all depends on the story, usually. Like, if I'm writing a story about people with powers, I usually just pick random ones.
Then again, in Memory Thief, it's "more of a curse then a power" ha ha, but it really affects one of my characters life, and makes her feel really guilty, so...
