You don't necessarily need long chapters. I mean, everyone has their own style, and it's okay if your style is writing shorter chapters. A lot of famous books have short chapters, like a lot of romance books and whatnot.

Personally, I don't have any problem making long chapters. Quite frankly, sometimes I forget I have chapters, and then I realize that I've written 20 pages in one chapter. So maybe just resist the urge to put in another chapter, and keep going until the next natural break?

Does anyone have any ideas about how to end chapters? >.< The next scene isn't particularly action-filled, so I want a final note more than a cliffhanger.

Bold= most important
1) Flashbacks, mostly, or do something deja vu that would totally remind them. Write out the info first, and cross them out sentence by sentence as you hint-bomb them into the story. Don't do too many or too long of a flashback chapter, because people will slowly dwindle away.
2) I have no idea for this one. xD
3) A mother? Well, mothers are usually loving and they care about their children. But they're people too, so kind and loving would be kind of bland. Just make a regular personality, and show signs of deep love for their child. ^O^
4) I ramble xD
5) I think... don't make a plan. Make up an ending, and start to daydream and ship your charries (yay) for a few hours, and everything will fall in place as soon as your fingers touch the keyboard. If you have inspiration, that is. If you don't, just go back to daydreaming, and it helps a lot if you listen to rain. For some reason. At least it works great for me. Usually daydreaming is the most effective there is; don't listen to actual music with lyrics though, because that'll affect your mood and distract you. My advice.

I usually end my chapters with one of the below:
1. Warm and cuddly scene
2. CLIFFIE
3. The end of a day

For some reason, writing in past tense just feels weird... Why do most people prefer it over present?

Hah warm and cuddly. XD That's actually how I did end my chapter, strangely enough. Not exactly bright, but my protagonist saved his best friend from dying, and the ending note is fairly light, despite the fact that to do so he had to let an innocent person die. So, it's more of a, "Well, I did it, and it probably was a stupid choice, but at least he's alive" sort of note. XD Thanks for the tips!

I always preferred past for both first and third person, but usually people write in the present tense for first person. :3 I don't know why, the verbs just come more easily to me like that. It's all subjective. c:

Yup xDD
Sure, you're welcome!
Now I has a question: How many parts do you usually break a long chappie into? I mean like, How many words do you think a part should be? I don't want it to be too long or too short, is 4500 words too long, you think?

For posting? 'Cause in my actual Word document, I don't break it into parts– I just don't really want to post ten thousand words on KP at once. XD That tends to drive people away. But for a chapter-part to be posted, I usually post 2000-4000, so you should be good. Lots of people like longer parts.

Oh, and, now that I'm done finishing my chapter... any tips on starting one?
