Cherry Popsicle by Dana

Winner, KidPub July 2012 Writing Contest

Take me back to ’05, when the playground was my home,
And the breeze rustled my hair as I ate ice pops on my throne

Take me back to third grade, when I came home hurling red
Because I ate too many popsicles in a contest with my friends

Take me back to eight years old, when nothing really mattered,
Tongue dyed candy red as we screamed and laughed and chattered

Take me back to ‘09, when I had the biggest crush
On a boy and we shared popsicles, our faces tinged with blush

Take me back to seventh grade, when I thought I was in love
And as I ate my cherry ice pops, he was all that I thought of

Take me back to age thirteen, when the world was bittersweet
My tears mingling with the melted fruit juice pooling at my feet

Take me back to summers years ago, when my heart was still young
Tastes like pure nostalgia, the cherry on my tongue

Great work.

That was SO excellent! I loved how it rymed, and how it took us back to your/the character's past/present! But I just have one question: Why is the character crying in the last paragraph? But eveything is still epic! :D
