Little Brother: Well, what happened to you?

Big Brother: What happened to me?

Little Brother: In the dream.

Big Brother: In the dream? After it's over, does it matter what happened in a dream?

Little Brother: I think there's more to it than it might seem.

Big Brother:

The air was cool, the light was dim,

Beside the pool, upon the rim

I was alone.

I thought, I hoped, that I was safe,

But what I knew could not but chafe

And change the tone.

And then I heard but could not see

A voice that came there to taunt me,

A well-known foe.

Though I knew he never relents,

I stepped back, claiming ignorance,

My hope in tow...

Little Brother: In the dream, did you fight?

Big Brother: Yes, with all my might.

Little Brother: So you strove for the right?

Big Brother: With no end in sight.

But I knew that when I stumbled

At that moment I'd be crumbled,

And I stumbled...

And I...

And I...

And I...

Both: And died,

Little Brother: In the dream.

Big Brother: In the dream.

Both: In the dream.

Little Brother: And you woke up then?

Big Brother: No...no.

I was neither happy nor sad,

Said "I guess that was not so bad,"

And slowly stood,

Then I looked up and saw a sight,

A glimpse of everlasting light,

Something so good...

Little Brother: Something so good!

Big Brother: I reached upwards with a great strain,

But was yanked down as by a chain,

And I percieved

I wanted the light, since I could

Never have it, my longing would

Not be relieved.

Little Brother: In the dream, did you cry?

Big Brother: It all went awry.

Little Brother: Did you wake? When and why?

Big Brother: At dawn, with a sigh,

But not before all time went back

And I relived the same attack,

But what was worse-

I could never attain the light,

And that's why I gave up the fight,

And there's my curse-

Over and over and over,

I gave up.

Little Brother: You gave up?

Both: I gave up.

Big Brother: But!

If I've learned anything from dreams where I try and I fall,

It's better to have tried and failed than never try at all...!

But that's over and gone now, so don't worry 'bout the strife.

I'm gonna go back to bed now, so get on with your life.

Little Brother: Goodnight.

It's less a dream than a nightmare.

Oh brother, why was I not there?

Are some dreams true?

You spoke in such vivid detail,

If you said, "this is not a tale,"

I won't doubt you.

For it seems that the strange

Always will arrange

Some way to make you change,

Get beyond your range.

Well, still, I think it would be right

To dream you a good dream tonight.

oh my god i love this.  I

oh my god i love this.  I love your rhyming skills and the beautiful poeticness of this conversation between the two brothers.

i couldn't help but read this like it was a song straight out of hamilton or something.

like lin manuel miranda was spitting out these verses in my head.

poetry makes even the

poetry makes even the pettiest human emotion understandable, if not acceptable

lin manuel miranda was not what i had in mind but thank you that's still extremely flattering

Spero quod via tua est directa et quod tuum onus est levis.
