i wish i could

be the person i yearn to be.

i wish i could

write poetry

that i won't be ashamed of in the future

and that i can breathe, exist, and live in short words.

i wish i could

see nature for how it is, look at the many birds

appreciate the life that God laid out for me.

explore

and breathe, exist, and live in trees.

maybe i'll find what i'm looking for.

i wish i could

get lost and tumble into a mess of creation,

flowers,

straight from one's tangled imagination

but at the top of the list is

p o e t r y

and i won't stop rhyming

it's time to face the future

my life is not just a repeat

can i do it for me? can i do it for her?

(crap, i rhymed again.

can i not let go of my childhood?)

why can't i find the model answer,

my moral of life?

and i look up and see

i've written the poetry i desired to write.

and all of my previous words have become

i r r e l e v a n t .
