The genre is horror because I'm old. This is kind of an ongoing joke.
Welcome to my Fifth Yearaversary post
Finally my Fifth Yearaversary rolls around, and I can't say I'm not excited. To be honest, I'm usually more excited for my Yearaversary than my birthday because it just so happens that my yearaversary is on a national holiday, which always means no school today.
Five years is a cause for celebration, I guess, even if I'm not on that often anymore, and a busy school life with even busier band duties mean that my activity on here will probably only drop as the next few years go by. I'm officially old for this site, in both Kidpub years and in real life, in which I am seventeen, which is among one of the oldest people, if not the oldest (I know Elliot and LST still come on from time to time, so) people on this site. So, I have no idea how many more yearaversaries there are going to be for me, but I'll make every one of them count for sure.
Over the years, writing has transformed from a passion and what I aspire to do full time, to a mere hobby that I engage in sparingly. I've told variations of my story, or sometimes not at all, over the course of four other yearaversaries, so I won't bother anyone with more.
During the next year, I plan to write slightly more than I did in the past year, but mainly snippets and short stories, and maybe a poem or two, like the short pieces I have posted recently. I can't do very much to contribute to this stie anymore, as I am under a lot of pressure academically, and in fact, and still suposed to be studying at this very moment (which I opted out of doing in favor of writing an yearaversary post.) But, under much urging from Ena, and inspired by their determination to revive the site, I have come back more often in the past month than I have in roughly half a year preceeding it. I admire Ena's passion and love for this site, and although it will not be much, I will still do my best to bring this website back to what it used to be.
Granted, back when I first joined five years ago, the average age of Kidpub users was maybe 12 years old, around my own age, with a few younger kids ranging from 8 to 10, and a few 14 and 15 year olds to level them out. There were as many as two dozen newbies who joined around the time I did, but I can only name a handful off the top of my head who stayed with us and the site as it was still fair to call Kidpub 'prosperous' during 2013~2014. After that, though, I faded in and out of this site although I never lost my love for it and the friends I've made here.
Nowadays, there's a huge age gap, with Ena, Luna and I, and I'm sure a few others, who are still here from the days we lovingly dub the 'Taco Era' where "random" was the rage and "Everybody loves tacos" (copy and paste this onto your bio if you love Tacos!) and such. (Is Max still here? I hope he is, but I haven't seen him around when I'm on recently.) Other kids on this site have joined more recently, and are just approaching, or have just passed their first yearaversary. This will inevitably mean a huge difference in writing styles and maturity content as well as content length, which may or may not have caused the 'comment problem'- because of the variation of appropriation of content that older kids and younger ones put out.
It saddens me to see Kidpub so inactive- to be honest, in the old days, the NSP would be flooded after about a day, and your work would get 2 to 3 comments on average, going up to maybe 6 if you were lucky and your title caught someone's eye. And I know how it feels, to spend a lot of time working on something, and then not having it recognized, so I will try. Although, like I've already mentioned, time is spare, I do what I can.
Honestly there are so many memories. The NES, Demiblog, cringy commentary on old writing, threads on WB (ooh I remember the stage fight between Lydia and I), and so much more, and I'm so grateful that this site has brought me five years of memories and friendship.
Shoutouts because I can and will do them-
Perry- As always, thanks for creating this site. It may be because of time zones, but I haven't seen you around when I log on. However, seeing your comment on the A/N reassures me that you're still there, and you still care about and are putting effort into maintaining this site. It may be hard, but I really, truly thank you and appreciate you for all you've done to keep this site alive so we have both somewhere to write and a sanctuary, a place of memories, where we made our first, childhood internet friends (back when 'internet safety' was still a thing and I was unwilling to reveal even my first name, which doesn't even appear in my legal documents, but made friends nonetheless.)
Ena- Hey it's my favorite annoying buddy! Thanks for pestering me to come on all the time, thanks for talking about that co-write that I keep saying I will get to but keep procrastinating on (I'm busy like that ;~; but I really do love Callucien), thanks for being around in general and talking to me a lot about how life is unfair and telling me about your favorite anime and generally just being a really great friend. I'm glad we're talking more nowadays and I'm really glad you pushed me to come back on!
Hyacinth- I'm sorry I kinda abandoned Stargazer on you ;~; I know you and I have both been busy academically and me with my concert band and you with your marching band, (just saying... you look really impressive with a trombone! I'm so proud of you always) and I love you a lot even though we never get to talk nowadays. ;~; I'll call you on your birthday and maybe I'll write you, but we'll make up for the lost time somehow. Good luck with 11th grade, I know how hard it can be but I know you can make it. Good luck to the both of us!
Lydia- We don't talk a lot anymore and I'm smad. However, you're still a great friend. That incident on Instagram was and still is one of the most 'wtf' things that happened to me and I'm glad you were there to witness it, and that I gave you a good laugh. We honestly should talk more because I miss you! Thanks for being a friend for all of five years; I'm sure we'll stay friends for more. c:
Luna- I'm so happy to see that you're still on Kidpub, and that Colors is still a thing! I'll definitely catch up on it soon, I can't wait to see where the story goes! Ily, and I miss the NES days as much as you do. One of these days, we'll get it back and running, I'm sure.
That's it. Happy Fifth Yearaversary to me. Five years is a lot of time. I hope you all who love this site will get to experience as much joy and love and friendship and yearaversaries as I do.
I request party gifs. For nostalgia's sake.
