Ten Tense Seconds (A paragraph I thought up while watching a baseball game)

The ball and the bat collided with a deafening CRACK, louder than anything previous in the stadium. It was obvious that something had snapped- probably the bat. A cloud of dust filled the stadium, and a small shockwave emanated from the force of the impact, and everyone in the bleachers stared. This had never happened before. So why would it happen now?
Everything was silent for ten tense seconds as the dust cleared, revealing the players just as surprised as the audience. They were covered in dust from the collision of the now-disintegrated bat and ball, and the batter had multiple burns. This was a world record, never to be broken, and a physicist's nightmare when trying to figure it out.
There, how was that? Any good?
