There are the Pedernales Falls

Where nature rules and creatures call,

But every dawn, beneath the font

The Wood Nymph then will come to haunt.

Marigold; it is her fair name,

On Ironskill is laid the blame

For all the griefs of her six years,

All of the days of lonely tears.

Near the falls in a plain old house

The Willises who had been roused

To withdraw from society,

Then taught their children gaiety.

But they were wise and learnèd men,

And Ironskill desired their ken,

And for their knowledge they were slain;

Their children, twins, are torn in twain.

Marigold then took to the woods,

For freedom she fled, as she should.

She lived and grew for two long years,

She and nature becoming peers.

At last, with open mind and ears,

A Rhapsode met her, and her tears

Though unseen will be remembered

By him she met one November.

There are the Pedernales Falls

Where nature rules and creatures call,

But every dawn, beneath the font

The Wood Nymph then will come to haunt.
