Wooden Girl

in Wonderland

Long, long ago
In a kingdom by the sea
Lived a small wooden girl
Who could wish like you and me

The wooden girl watched as the children played
Near the rolling ocean waves
She longed to play with the other kids
She wished to play for days

And every day when the children return
To have a lot of fun
The wooden girl frowned and thought,
"I wish to play in the sun."

After a while, the wooden girl
She had a wish to make
She wished more than anything to be a human child
That was the one thing she wanted for her own sake

The only reason she awoke in the morning
Was the hope that one day
She'll be able to laugh and jump like the other kids
She'll be able to go with them to play

One night the wooden girl awoke
To see a fascination bright blue light
She rubbed her eyes,
Wondering if she was still asleep on this night

"Hello," the blue light called out to her
"I've come to help you out."
And with that the light swirled
The wooden girl gave out a shout

She covered her mouth with her hand
She never knew she could do that before
She realized her hand was made of flesh and not wood
It made her want to do so much more

And so the wooden girl ran out
She ran out the palace walls
She wanted to show off her new look
And to play, all in all

However, the sand seared her feet
The crabs shredded her toes
The sunlight melted her it by bit
Sweat dropped down her nose

She tried to laugh
Even if she didn't know how
But when she tried to mimic the children's bell-like laughter
She couldn't make a sound

The more she longed to play
The more she tried
To just hear that little giggle leave her mouth once
And so, she just cried

Her tears melted into the sand
And the girl started to melt
She became nothing more than a fused puddle
She wasn't any wider than a belt

The girl melted into the sand
Until she could be seen no more
She turned back into her wooden girl self
Looking the same as the day before

Long, long ago
In a kingdom by the sea
Lived a wooden girl
Who could wish like you and me

I love how everything

I love how everything rhymed, and how you described her feelings. Favouriting heart

Gosh, this is heartbreaking.

Gosh, this is heartbreaking. Well done!

One of the few ballads I've seen on here!

CC: I know that poetry does tend to be awkward (i'm guilty of this myself, especially when trying to rhyme,) but I feel that some words were not needed (unless you were trying for a meter as well?) For instance, in

"She longed to play with all the other kids,"

I wouldn't see the "all" as neccessary.

Spero quod via tua est directa et quod tuum onus est levis.
